Shopping Your Closet

I can be very “out of sight, out of mind” so unless wardrobe items are in my face, I can easily forget all about them. For this reason, I tend to prefer clothing racks over closets because I can see what I have, but even then those things get overcrowded and pieces get lost. A rack broke on me a couple weeks ago, forcing me to clean up the ensuing pile of clothing carnage. As I picked through the mess, I rediscovered some old favorites I had neglected for years, like this blazer!

The best part is, my personal style has evolved since the last time this blazer and I came together, so when I tossed it on with my current favorite wardrobe pieces, it felt new and fresh. Bringing it back into regular rotation also feels like I’ve just added a new piece to my wardrobe, which is cooling that itch to shop I inevitably feel this time of year (gawd I love fall clothes).

So, moral of the story is, the fashion seasons are changing, so try shopping your closet before shopping the stores. It’s easy to forget about the great pieces you already own when shiny new merchandise is taunting you. I should know.

So in honor of shopping your closet, instead of posting new fall merchandise here, I’ve rounded up some items to help upgrade or care for your current wardrobe favorites. Enjoy!

  1. I like the phrasing of “shopping your closet” and even more the thoughts behind it. Why buying new stuff if you can recycle older stylish items. This is good for your creativity, the environment and you savings. Thanks for the reminder Kelly and for showing how well this principle can work out! Love, Lieske

Great post! My blog is all about wearing what you already own, so I do that every day pretty much. I love your blazer. Definitely looks current! Feel free to stop by my blog. I’m also petite and I’m designing clothing (learning as I go ar own pace), but I will design only for petites.

I use Pureple app for this. I have a super small closet in our 1940 bungalow and no space for a clothing rack. It was a bit of a work to put my clothes in the app but oh so worth it. I am guilty of forgetting what I already have hanging in my closet and shopping more than I need. No more.
