Fit Review – Everlane Slim Silk Shirt

I mentioned the Slim Silk Shirt from Everlane a little while back, but I wanted to reiterate how great it is because it doesn’t seem to be a priority or best seller for Everlane, so I don’t know how long it’ll be around. I say this because Everlane has not included this style in any of their new color or print releases, while the more generously sized “Relaxed Silk Shirt” has benefited from both, so appears to be the higher priority.

A case of “so nice, I bought it twice”, I just recently picked up the white after wearing the black non-stop. There is also a very pretty blush if you’re in the market.

Below are the black and white versions of this blouse in size 00, and as per usual, you can find my measurements for reference here.

note: the black bra is to give a reference to opacity, and is a super cute bralette by Elma Lingerie, a petite lingerie company!

Fit

Without trying, Everlane nailed a petite-friendly fit with this one. The slimmer silhouette and shorter length across the board make this a classic silk blouse with just the right amount of drape and slouch for petites. Those who are busty may find the slimmer silhouette a problem, and for reference, the 00 has plenty of room without pulling for my 30C/28D’s. I also like the button placement, as I can leave the top few buttons undone for a great relaxed look without revealing bra if I don’t want to. I also like how fitted the neck is, great for those who enjoy a fully buttoned look.

Style

This blouse is about as classic as it gets. Clean and minimalist with the basic details like two buttons at the sleeve (one at the cuff, one at the sleeve slit), buttons that match the fabric color, and a small classic point collar. A pleat at the back adds to the soft drape. This is a classic blouse that will never go out of style and can find a place in anyone’s wardrobe.

Fabric & Quality For The Price

Here is where I think Everlane shines. The weight and quality of this silk fabric is far above those of usual petite silk blouse retailers such as J.Crew and Banana Republic, and a tad below that of luxury silk brand Equipment. Seeing as J.Crew/BR silks run $100+ and Equipment over $200, the Everlane price of $78 is an absolute delight. The fabric is a silk crepe, similar to that of Equipment, with an excellent soft drape.

Measurements

Below are the approximate measurements (laid flat) for size 00:

Bust: 17″
Waist: 17″
Hip: 18″

I really appreciated your in-depth review on the Cuyana silk shirt (from last year?) If you had a choice of same style and fit shirt from Everlane vs Cuyana (with their respective prices, $78 vs $175), which would you choose? I actually don’t have too much of a preference regarding their styles. Thanks for your input!

    1. Hi Anyii! I personally prefer the texture and drape of the crepe silk used by Everlane, but do think the Cuyuna is better quality (also higher priced, so it adds up). I would bring it down to texture…if you prefer the softer velvety feeling silks, so for Everlane. If you prefer the flatter and crisper feeling silks, go for Cuyana.
